Unifor Local 88 posted to their website this morning that layoffs are coming to the plant in Ingersoll. The entire plant will be shut down for one week beginning Sept. 30, 2019.

About 2000 people can expected to be laid off during that time meanwhile 200 unionized skilled trades employees will remain on the job. Unifor Local 88 as well posted that there will be further shut downs throughout the fourth quarter, but could not clarify how many.

Reasoning for the shutdown is due to decreased sales of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV that is built on the lines of the Ingersoll plant. The Mexican Plant which also produces the Equinox SUV has been informed that they will be reducing a shift, down to two shifts, starting August 12th.
