Western students who use another name other than their legal name will soon be allowed to use their preferred name anywhere on campus.

This even includes getting their preferred name on their diploma.

University officials say it’s a move that makes a more inclusive community.

Legal names will remain on all records, official documents and transcripts, but students can identify themselves as they so choose on emails, student centre accounts, the OneCard, class lists and grading.

Officials say that though this may be focused on being more inclusive toward transgender and international students, anyone can request a name change.
