Canada Post has said no to an 80 day cooling off period, which would have been followed by binding arbitration to end the dispute.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers had a deadline of 5pm yesterday to accept the latest proposal.

The crown corporation had proposed the two parties to work together until January 31st, which would mean that the rotating strikes would end, Canada Post would not lock out mail carriers, and massive backlogs would be dealt with.

The union is calling on the federal government to appoint a mediator.

The Canada Post strike is entering its fourth week.
