Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says the flu shot is safe and he’s urging you to get vaccinated. It’s now available from your family doctor or nurse practitioner, the local Public Health Unit and many pharmacies. Dr. David Williams says flu may seem mild when it first comes on – but before you realize you even have it, you’re already contagious.
He says people who just feel “a little under the weather” are already spreading the virus.

It’s especially important for seniors to get their flu shot this year. Those over 65, or with weak immune systems are at the greatest risk of severe flu-related illness.

The sooner you get the vaccine, the better.
Williams says it takes around two weeks for the vaccine to build up immunity in your body so the sooner you get the shot the better.
The standard vaccine protects against four strains of influenza.
