Avril’s new song “Head Above Water” has been out for a close to a month now, but it’s not your typical breakup/make up song.

Lavinge released her fifth album back in 2013, and in 2015 she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Since then she has had a rough go with disease.

Lyme disease is a bacterial disease that, if not treated, can cause mental and physical deficits. Antibiotics help to treat Lyme disease, but some more than others battle it for years.

Lavinge says her battle with the disease has felt like drowning, and that’s where inspiration for this song has come from.

There is no word on if there will be a new album coming out, but we hope Avril continues to stay positive during her battle.
