The Transportation Safety Board announced that several mechanical issues and track conditions were to blame for a freight train derailment in Strathroy last year.
According to the TSB, a wheel of a CN freight train climbed the track, causing 13 cars to derail near the Metcalfe Street crossing. One of the cars contained petroleum residue but none of the hazardous chemical leaked and no injuries were reported.
The report says recent heavy rains may have made a portion of the track unstable, which may have led to the derailment.
